Dear Flutists,
What a season! Our six-part Teachers’ Workshop series came to and end on May 31 when George Pope provided all those in attendance with thought-provoking ideas to help guide our students and ourselves in experimenting with phrasing.
Our talented members performed in the Members Ensemble Showcase in March at the Suzuki-Orff School of Music. The program included pieces from Kuhlau through two contemporary composers – John Timothy Saunders and Jeff Kowalkowski. I would like to sincerely thank all those that shared their performances with us that afternoon.
Jennifer Gunn performed an unforgettable piccolo recital in Roosevelt’s Ganz Hall. After her performance, she candidly spoke with the audience about her experiences auditioning, performing, and joining the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s flute section.
Please save the date for our next Flute Festival which will take place at Evanston’s Hotel Orrington November 6-8, 2009. We will kick off the weekend with a banquet honoring the Chicago Flute Club’s 20th Anniversary and the lifetime achievements of William Bennett and Jack Moore. See our website for information on reserving your tickets in advance!
We are currently taking nominations for board openings for next season. Don’t forget that you may nominate yourself! Contact any board member if you are interested or if you have a nomination. Consider this opportunity to give back to our flute community.
We hope you have a restful summer and thank you for your support throughout this season.
Best regards,
Erin Kendall Murphy, President |
