About The Artist
Capriccio
Hideko Amano

Hideko Amano was born in Japan and came to the United States at the age of 12. She is currently an Adjunct Professor of Flute at DePaul University in Chicago and maintains a private studio for young flutists. She received a BM from the New England Conservatory in Boston, where she studied with Paula Robison. She continued her musical education in Paris, France where she studied with Mathieu Dufour. She is actively involved with several Japanese organizations and performed in a concert series at the House of Consul General of Japan, as well as the Japan America Society of Chicago's August Peace Concert. She has performed on the WFMT 98.7 Monday Evening Series, among others. Most recently, she has appeared at the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series at the Chicago Cultural Center.

Jennie Brown

Jennie Brown – Guest Lecturer in Flute at Wheaton College. She received her DMA and MM Performance and Literature degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the Performer's Certificate. She holds her BM Degree from Northwestern University. Dr. Brown resides in Elmhurst with her husband, Stephen, and two sons, Cameron the scientist, and Nathan the sports nut.

Gerald Carey

Gerald Carey is principal flute of the Quad City Symphony. Formerly he was principal flute of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the New Orleans Summer Pops Orchestra, the Eastman Symphonic Wind Ensemble (under the direction of Frederick Fennell) and the Eastman Philharmonia (under the direction of Howard Hanson). He has also been a member of the Rochester Philharmonic, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Rochester Civic Orchestra, the New Orleans Opera House Orchestra, the American School Woodwind Quintet (Fountainebleau, France with Nadia Boulanger), and has played in the St. Louis Symphony and the New Orleans Symphony. He retired from Western Illinois University in 1999 where he was Professor of Flute and a founding member of the Camerata Woodwind Quintet. He teaches Summer Flute Classes at Illinois Valley Community College and the Westminster Choir College Conservatory in Princeton, New Jersey. Mr. Carey has also been a faculty member of the Eastman School of Music, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the University of Illinois, and DePaul University, Chicago. He holds B.M. and M.M. degrees and the Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music as a student of Joseph Mariano, and completed his D.M.A. studies (ABD) at the University of Illinois.

Sue Gillio

Sue Gillio is flute instructor at Illinois Valley Community College, Sauk Valley Community College and Co-Owner and Director of the Flute Program at OPUS 111 Music Studio in LaSalle. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Western Illinois University with emphasis in flute performance where she studied with Gerald Carey. She is currently Principal Flute of the Illinois Valley Symphony, and a member of the Quad City Symphony.

Cate Hummel

Cate Hummel received her DMA and MM degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and BM from the Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts. She is founder and director Dr. Cate's Flute Camp, a day camp for 7th-10th grade flute students and Dr. Cate's Flute Boot Camp in 2006 for 9th-12th grades based in Naperville. She teaches in Naperville, Oswego, Carpentersville, IL and at the Illinois Math & Science Academy.

Ellen Huntington

Ellen Huntington is in her fifth season as second flute with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. Ellen received her Bachelor of Music degree Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern University where she studied with Walfrid Kujala and Richard Graef. She was awarded a University Fellowship to pursue her Master of Music degree with Katherine Borst Jones at The Ohio State University. As the recipient of a Fulbright Grant, Ellen Huntington spent the 1999-2000 academic year studying with Jean-Claude Gérard at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart, Germany. She is currently a DMA student at Northwestern University.

Linda Marianiello

Linda Marianiello holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.A. from the City University of New York-Brooklyn College. Her teaches are Bernard Goldberg, Thomas Nyfenger, Julius Baker, Walfrid Kujala, as well as Peter Thalheimer, Sandra Miller, and Janet See for baroque flute. She has recorded for the Bavarian Radio in Munich, Germany. Her solo CD's include, "Music for Flute and Piano," on the Helicon label; "Dialogues: American Music for Flute and Organ," on the MSR label; and a Baroque Sampler for Swineshead Productions in Berkeley, CA. A fourth CD is planned for 2007.

Lisa Goethe-McGinn

Lisa Goethe-McGinn teaches at the Sherwood Conservatory of Music. She holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois and BM from Millikin University. She pursued Masters studies at the University of North Texas. She has had training in the Suzuki Flute Method. She is a member of the Ensemble NoAmnesia, MAVercik Ensemble, and Basement Junta.

Kim Sopata

Kim Sopata has performed with numerous orchestras including the Milwaukee, Elgin, and Charlotte Symphony Orchestras, and the South Carolina Philharmonic, including solo performances with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony and the South Carolina Philharmonic. In Chicago, she performs frequently with her woodwind quintet, and with guitarist James Baur as the Avanti Duo. She also performs traditional Arabic music on the flute and Egyptian nây as a member of the Mosaic Ensemble, and locally with both the Chicago Classical Oriental Ensemble and Hamsa – Arab-Jewish Folk Fusion Project. She received a B.M. in flute performance from Northwestern University and an M.A. in Ethnomusicology with an emphasis in Middle Eastern music from Bethel University in Minneapolis, MN.

Jennifer Swanson

Jennifer Swanson holds a BM degree in flute performance from the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign and a diploma from the Interlochen Arts Academy. She has studied with Jonathan Keeble, Tyra Gilb, and Jennie Brown.











Melody C. Lord, piano – M.M., B.M. DePaul University; master classes, with Menahem Pressler, Claude Frank, Lili Kraus. Member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Symphony, Chicago Opera Theater Orchestra; solo performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the American Chamber Symphony; active accompanist and recitalist.
