The Chicago Flute Club’s Kujala International Piccolo Competition is open to all flutists age 18 years or older from any geographical region. ▪ The application fee is $45 and is non-refundable. ▪ All application materials must be postmarked by Feb. 1, 2019. ▪ The winner of the competition will be awarded $1,000.00, the second place winner will be awarded $500.00, the third place winner will be awarded $250.00, and the fourth place winner will be awarded $100.00. ▪ Applicants will be notified of their status by March 1, 2019. ▪ Finalists are responsible for their own travel arrangements and expenses.
REPERTOIRE: Preliminary Round: 1. Martin Amlin: Ephemeropterae I for solo piccolo 2. Nicole Chamberlain: Death Whistle for solo piccolo, Mvt. 3: #PiccolOhMyGod Applicants must submit an unedited recording of the preliminary round selections on CD in the given order. No identifying information should appear on the CD face or packaging. Recordings will be coded for anonymity and reviewed by a judging committee. Final Round: Finalists will play for a maximum total time of 20 minutes each (including time between movements and works). Final round repertoire must include at least one memorized selection of at least four minutes in length. Selections MUST be ORIGINAL works for the piccolo. Vivaldi’s flautino concerti are acceptable. Preliminary round works may be repeated. While it is permissible to program unaccompanied selections, the final round program must include works accompanied by piano.
