Nicola Mazzanti currently serves as Solo Piccolo of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, a position he has held since 1988. As a world-renowned piccoloist, he performs frequently as both a flute and piccolo soloist and in chamber ensembles in Italy and abroad. As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras such as “I Pomeriggi Musicali” of Milan, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Florence Symphony Orchestra, and Akronos of Prato. Many composers have written pieces for him, for piccolo and piano or orchestral concerts. His name is associated with numerous premières and he continues to advocate for the piccolo as a solo voice. Mr. Mazzanti is a highly regarded teacher giving courses in Florence, Switzerland, and Milan.
His recital will include works by Le’on-Louis Mayeur, J.S. Bach, Jules Demersemann, Alessandro Cavicchi, Christopher Caliendo, and Donato Lovreglio. He will be joined by CSO piccoloist, Jennifer Gunn and pianist, Shirley Trissell. Following the recital, Nicola Mazzanti will conduct a masterclass focusing on piccolo solo and orchestral repertoire.
